Love apple crisp? Then you have to try this Chai Spice Apple Crisp! The apples are coated in warming spices like cardamom, allspice, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger! And the buttery oatmeal crumb topping is sweet, crunchy, and just begging to be topped with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream! The ULTIMATE Fall dessert, if you ask me!
10cupsapples (about 10 medium-sized apples), peeled and sliced into 1/4" slices
2teaspoonsfresh lemon juice
2tablespoonsall-purpose flour
1/2cupgranulated sugar
1and 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1teaspoonground ginger
1/2teaspoonnutmeg
1/4teaspooncloves
1/4teaspoonallspice
1/4teaspoonground cardamom
1/8teaspoonground black pepper
For the Oatmeal Chai Crisp Topping:
8ouncesunsalted butter, at room temperature, cut into cubes
1and 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
3/4cupgranulated sugar
3/4cuplight brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4teaspoonground cinnamon
1/2teaspoonground ginger
1/4teaspoonground cloves
1/4teaspoonallspice
1/4teaspoonground cardamom
1/8teaspoonground black pepper
1cupall-purpose flour
Instructions
For the Chai Spice Apple Filling:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees (F). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Place the sliced apples in a large bowl and toss with the lemon juice.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and spices. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples and toss well to coat.
Pour apple mixture into prepared baking dish and set aside while you make the crumb topping.
For the Oatmeal Chai Crisp Topping:
In a large bowl, combine the oats, both sugars, spices, and flour. Add in the cubed butter and, using two forks or a pastry blender, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until mixture resembles a coarse meal.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
Place the pan in the oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
Remove from the oven and place the pan on a cooling rack. Serve warm! Preferably with ice cream.
