Ok guys, so It’s been waaaaaaaaaay too long since I’ve made us some burgers! Last night I finally caved to the cravings and made some for dinner. A girls gotta have her burger fix, ya know?! Dudes need em, too. So let’s do this!
These Arugula & Apple Turkey Burgers with Caramelized Onions are a fun twist on the classic, and really great if you’re in the mood for something a little different (and healthy).
They’re packed with spicy arugula leaves, grated apple, shallots, and some great spices, and they’re topped with  – what in my opinion is the best burger topping in the whole wide world – caramelized onions! Caramelized onions really just make everything they touch dreamy and delicious.
These bad boys are definitely not lacking in flavor!
This recipe serves 4, so it’s great for a family (you can always double it up if your family is really BIG), but also great for a couple who loves leftovers 😉 We ate our “seconds” for lunch yesterday and they tasted even better than day 1. That’s what I call a crazy win!
Happy Thursday you guys; we’re almoooooooost there!
xo

Arugula Turkey Burgers with Caramelized Onions – Baker by NatureÂ
Serves 4
Ingredients:
For the caramelized onions
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 large onions, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
For the Arugula Turkey Burgers
1 pound ground turkey meat
1 1/2 cups baby arugula leaves, chopped
1/2 small apple, peeled and grated
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 shallot, diced VERY tiny
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cloves garlic, minced VERY tiny
3/4 cup panko crumbs
1 teaspoon worchestier sauce
1 large egg
4 burger buns, toasted
 Instructions:
In a large, heavy pan heat olive oil over medium flame. Add onions and cook for 35 – 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and deep amber in color.
While the onions caramelize, make your turkey burgers!
In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients (minus the burger buns!) and mix well with hands. Divide meat mixture into 4 even balls, and lightly pat them into round patties. Heat a large skillet over a medium high flame and cook burgers on each side for 4-5 minutes, or until the middle is no longer pink (I usually cut into one of the burgers right around the 8 minute mark to check). Place cooked burgers on buns, and top with caramelized onions. Serve right away.

Ok, so I’m just going to move into your house. Cool?
Also, these photos are especially pretty. In particular, I love the one of the burgers coming together with the raw egg sitting on top. It’s just super attractive, raw meat and all. I’m weird, so what?

Ashley…I WILL be making these this week. I love turkey burgers. Especially on this stupid diet I’m on. And you’re right, caramelized onions are a burger’s best friend 🙂

The perfect fall burger! I love turkey burgers. Had my fair share in the ’90s when beef was preached to us via media as evil. You’ve gotta cave to those craves, right? Turkey was the way to go for this tremendous burger. And, I must say…fabulous styling and photography! Love that top shot. Thanks for sharing, girl. Will be pinning!

Awww Stacy! I already told you this once today, but here I go again – YOU ROCK! xo
