These frozen blackberry margaritas are made with fresh and frozen blackberries, so they’re bursting with flavor in every sip. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glass and dip in sugar for an extra pretty presentation!
Blackberry Margarita Recipe
It’s no secret that here at baker by nature, we love margaritas! And with cinco de mayo just days away, I wanted to share our latest margarita obsession. FROZEN BLACKBERRY MARGS! Made with frozen and fresh blackberries, simple syrup, lime juice, tequila, and triple sec, they’re bursting with flavor in every sip.
In addition to being delicious, these fruity margaritas are absolutely stunning! Their dark pink color will leave you mesmerized. Make them extra pretty by dipping the rim of the glass in sugar and garnishing with fresh blackberries and lime slices. And since these margaritas are whipped up in the blender, no cocktail shaker is needed!
Ingredients for Blackberry Margaritas
- Blackberries: Fresh and frozen blackberries are used in this recipe. If you can’t find frozen blackberries at the grocery store, simply freeze fresh ones until solid.
- Sugar: Used in our simple syrup. As well as for rimming the margarita glasses. I do not suggest skipping the simple syrup; blackberries are tart and the flavor will be very imbalanced without the sugar.
- Water: This is used for the simple syrup and should not be replaced with any other liquid.
- Limes: You’ll use fresh lime juice for the margarita mix. And lime slices or wedges to garnish your margarita glasses.
- Blanco Tequila: You don’t need to use high-end tequila, but you should use something you enjoy the taste of.
- Orange Liqueur: Triple sec will work in a pinch, but I suggest an orange liqueur like Cointreau or Grand Marnier.
- Orange Juice: Freshlysqueezed orange juice works best, but store-bought will work in a pinch.
- Ice: If your margaritas look too thin, you can add 1/2 cup of ice instead of using more frozen blackberries.
How to Make Blackberry Margaritas
These are just my pro-tips: Jump to the Recipe for the Full Instruction!
- Make the Simple Syrup: Instead of using muddled blackberries, you’ll make a fresh blackberry simple syrup. This is done by boiling down blackberries with sugar, water, and lime juice. Then pressing the mixture though a fine-mesh strainer.
- Blend the Margaritas: Make sure you have a large powerful blender for this step. If your margaritas look too thin, you can add more frozen blackberries. And if they look too thick, you can add a splash more orange juice.
- Garnish and Serve: Add sugar or salt to the rims of your margarita glasses, if desired. Then pour the margarita mix in, filling all the way to the rim of the glass. Top with fresh blackberries and a lime wedge and serve! Due to the nature of frozen margaritas, these are best served right away.
I find one pitcher of margarita mix usually serves about 4 people. But serving sizes will vary depending on how large or small your margarita glasses are!
Tools Needed for this Recipe:
- High-Power Blender: A must have for making smooth and creamy frozen margaritas!
- Margaritas Glasses: Although any glass will technically work, these stunning margarita glasses are always a good idea!
- Cocktail Sugar: If you want to put sugar on the rim of the glass, this sugar works great!
- Cocktail Skewers: Want to add a row of blackberries like you see in my photos? Add them to a cocktail skewer!
Frozen Blackberry Margaritas
Ingredients
For the Blackberry Simple Syrup:
- 2 pints fresh blackberries washed and picked over
- 1 cup (199g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (227ml) water
- 1/2 cup (113ml) freshly squeezed lime juice
For the Blackberry Margaritas:
- 2 cups (454ml) blanco tequila
- 1 cup (227ml) orange liqueur
- 1/2 cup (113ml) freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1/2 cup (113ml) freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 cup (140g) frozen blackberries
- 2 cups ice more if needed
Garnish:
- 2 Tablespoons (28g) coarse sugar optional
- lime wedges optional
- fresh blackberries optional
Instructions
For the Blackberry Simple Syrup:
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the blackberries, sugar, water, and lime.
- Bring to a rolling simmer, then reduce to the heat medium-low and continue simmering, gently mashing up the blackberries with a wooden spoon, until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture thickens, about 10 to 12 minutes.
- Remove from heat and strain through a fine-mesh strainer, squeezing out as much blackberry juice as possible. Pour into an airtight container and store in the fridge until chilled, or up to 1 week. Stir well before using.
For the Blackberry Margaritas:
- In the body of a large powerful blender, combine all of the blackberry simple syrup with the tequila, orange liqueur, juices, frozen blackberries, and ice and blend until smooth and slushy! If your mixture looks too thin, add more ice until desired texture is achieved.
Garnish:
- To sugar the rim of the glasses, place the sugar in a wide shallow dish. Run the edge of a lime around a glass, then dip the glass into the sugar. Repeat with all glasses.
- Pour the frozen margarita into the glasses, then garish with extra blackberries and a lime wedge. Serve at once!
