Smoked Salmon Appetizer
Last night we hosted the last dinner party we’ll probably ever have in our current apartment. We’re moving days after we return from Italy – but we’ll still be Brooklyn babes. Just in our very own apartment. No more roommates! Hooray! It feels like such an accomplishment. A dream.
The party itself was small and intimate. It was one of those nights full of precious friends, good food, and lots of laughter. These are the moments. The ones that slip by too quickly.
I made all of the food, which was fun for me, of course. And judging from the leftovers, everyone else enjoyed the spread too 😉 I made a banana cream pie that I will be remaking for you guys this week. It was so lovely, and now that I’m thinking about it… I wish there were some left. This girl could use a snack. Good thing I have some of these cucumber salmon bites hiding close by!

Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Cucumber Bites
Ingredients
- 2 English Cucumbers, peeled and cut into 1" rounds
- 1 pound smoked salmon, cut into bite sized pieces
- (1) 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
- 3 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
- 1 tablespoon Horseradish (more or less to taste)
- 1 tablespoon heavy cream, optional
- Toothpicks or tiny party forks
Instructions
- Peel cucumbers and slice them into 1" circles. Arrange on a platter as desired. Place in the refrigerator while preparing the cream cheese.
- Place cream cheese, dill, horseradish, and cream in a large bowl. Beat until well combined (a handheld mixer really helps here.)
- Spread 1 teaspoon of cream cheese on top each cucumber slice (more or less to taste), then top each slice with a bite sized piece of smoked salmon. Insert a toothpick down the center to keep in place.
- Serve at once, or keep in the refrigerator until needed.

Wondering if I can throw the salmon in with the cheese mix and then pipe it all on the cucumber making it even easier (depending on my pipe skills!)…might give that a try today and let you know. Looks like a great recipe! Thanks.
Ooooh sounds interesting! Let me know how it turns out 🙂 Good luck.
Hi Ashley, Love the cute idea. I’m admin for a FB page called ChasseurAUNZ. Would love to share the image, with a link back to Baker by Nature and credits. If you’d rather I don’t share just let me know, happy to take it down.
Cheers
amp it up a bit and sprinkle chopped red onion and/ or capers on salmon.
I just made these for a company Christmas party I hosted at my house. They were a hit! I left out the horseradish, though. I used a mini Christmas tree cookie cutter to cut out the cucumbers and they were so cute! I used a pastry bag with a swirly tip for the cream cheese, but was overkill. Couldn’t see the design, but it made assembling them quicker. Definitely one of the hits of the food I prepared. Thanks!
Hi Mindy. The christmas tree cut out sounds adorable! Thanks for letting me know these were a hit. Happy holidays 🙂
This looks so yummy! Is it made with fresh horseradish or the stuff that comes in a jar?
Wondered about the horseradish, is it prepared (creamy) or fresh?
Thanks in advance
Hi Beth! I used prepared but not a creamy version.
Mmmm I just want one rite now
Mmmm I just want one right now. I am a salmon lover and would dip mine in soy sauce like I do my sushi.
Oooah! Now that’s an idea 🙂
I love this idea! I was just wondering how many bites did one recipe make? I’m thinking of making these for my birthday party along with other bites.
Hi Shirene! This makes about 12 bites, so I would definitely double or triple as needed 😉 They go fast!!!
Hello, just came across the yummy looking recipe on Pinterest! Was a little confused by the servings it yields – the top of the page says 40 bites but in your reply to the question you say it makes 12 bites. Planning on serving these at a birthday brunch and and just trying to figure out how much stuff to buy! Thanks! 🙂
Hi Emily. You should be able to get close to 40 bites out of this recipe, give or take 🙂
